I am — take a deep breath — the Jim and Sharon Harrod Endowed Chair of Christian Thought and Distinguished Professor of the Humanities in the Honors Program of Baylor University. I’ve been at Baylor for ten years and before that taught for three decades at Wheaton College in Illinois. I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I’ve been married for forty-three years and have a grown-up son. I am an Anglican Christian. I have more gray in my beard than I did when the photo above was taken, but I’m too lazy to get a new photo.

This blog has a mission statement. A kind of summary of its major themes may be found here. Also, I’ve reposted on this site some essays of mine originally published elsewhere. And the blog’s tagline comes from this poem

More information about my work, with many useful and entertaining links, may be found on my home page.
